JOB OPENING: Costume Coordinator & Lead Seamstress (Part Time-Seasonal)

LOCATION: In-person on Campus in San Francisco, CA
STATUS: Part Time, Seasonal
Salary Range: $10,000 (Stipend) to cover work done in the Fall and Spring

PRIMARY ROLE:
St Ignatius is seeking a highly organized, skilled, and collaborative Costume Coordinator & Lead Seamstress to support our vibrant Performing Arts department. This position begins immediately with an intensive, critical inventory project in June 2026, and continues through the school year to manage wardrobe and costuming for our theatrical productions and music ensembles.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in theater arts, exceptional sewing skills, and the professional discernment necessary to curate and maintain a high-quality costume collection
A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE IN THIS POSITION WILL BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE:
Responsibilities and Duties:
Short-Term Project (Immediate – June 2026)
- Inventory & De-cluttering: Lead a comprehensive clean-out and updating of the school’s costume storage. Partner with Performing Arts students to systematically catalogue the entire inventory.
- Curation Discernment: Utilize professional theater and costume knowledge to identify high-value, versatile pieces to preserve, while strategically down-sizing and purging approximately 20% of the outdated or unusable inventory.
Long-Term Production Needs (Academic Year)
- Theatrical Productions: Oversee full costuming for the Fall Play, Spring Musical and Cabaret.
– Attend mid-day costume fittings and work after-school rehearsals a few days per week.
– Construct, adjust, tailor, and repair costumes to fit student performers on a timeline determined by the production director. - Music Department Support (Fall Semester): Manage the concert attire for up to 70 choral and orchestra students, including taking precise measurements, placing orders, and handling necessary fit adjustments.
- Strike & Maintenance: Ensure all wardrobe pieces are properly laundered, dry-cleaned, organized, and restowed following the completion of each production and concert.
Qualifications (some combination of):
- Education: Relevant experience
- Theatrical Experience: Proven experience as a costumer, seamstress, or wardrobe supervisor within a high school, collegiate, or professional theater environment.
- Technical Sewing Skills: Advanced proficiency in machine and hand sewing, tailoring, alterations, and fabric care (including dry-cleaning protocols).
- Organizational & Leadership Skills: Exceptional organizational habits with the ability to manage a large inventory. Experience mentoring or collaborating with high school students is highly preferred.
- Availability: Must have immediate availability through June for the inventory project, and flexible availability during the school year for mid-day fittings and after-school rehearsals.
- Flexibility: Must be adaptable to changes as the fine arts department needs change.
