JOB OPENING: High School Librarian

REPORTS TO: AP of Academics with a dotted line to the Director of the Library
LOCATION: In-person on Campus in San Francisco, CA
STATUS: EXEMPT
SALARY RANGE: $85,000-$120,000 (Subject to experience and qualifications)

PRIMARY ROLE:
Serve as LIBRARIAN to both high school and middle school academy ONSITE, IN LIBRARY SETTING (This is NOT a remote position)

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE IN THIS POSITION WILL BE ABLE TO:
Teach:

  • Model curiosity, problem solving, and critical thinking.
  • Tutor individuals how to find resources that support their academic and individual
    needs.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that provide information literacy instruction
    across grade levels, across the curriculum, and to faculty.
  • Collaborate with teachers to build learning opportunities based on curricular
    needs.
  • Provide student technical instruction (Canvas, Lockdown Browser, and other
    educational apps and tools)
  • Support student needs by working at the desk, checking out tools and resources,
    and answering student questions.
  • Be a “warm demander” of student behavior and academic performance.

Problem Solve:

  • Take initiative in performing general day-to-day library tasks and creating new
    learning opportunities for students.
  • Work towards developing reader engagement throughout the school community.
  • Collaborate with the library team on vision, instruction, technology, use of library
    space, and resources.
  • Make technology recommendations based on current research.
  • Troubleshoot tech issues with students and colleagues.
  • Be open and flexible to ever-evolving teacher and student needs.
  • Calm frustrated students and support them with resources that can enhance their
    academic lives.
  • Maintain the delicate balance of happy, comfortable, and work-friendly in the
    library atmosphere.

Engage with the Community:

  • Participate in library professional networks (e.g. BAISL).
  • Network outside of the school community in order to bring in resources to the
    school community.
  • Manage parent or guardian volunteers.
  • Moderate a co-curricular activity.
  • Participate in student retreats.
  • Attend Ignatian Evening.
  • Attend all faculty retreats.
  • Be an involved and an engaged member of the community

The Library’s mission is to empower learners. To this end, we teach research and
informational literacy, guide access to ideas and resources, and encourage
critical thinking. The library faculty and physical environment nurture reading for
pleasure and purpose, as well as collaborative and individual study and practice.
We respond to sociocultural needs, innovate in response to and ahead of our
changing culture, and provide excellent service to the entire St. Ignatius
community.

Qualifications:

  • Valid single subject and/or multiple subject California Teaching Credential
  • Valid Library Media Teaching Services certificate and/or Masters in Library and Information Science or equivalent
  • Successful experience as a classroom teacher and/or librarian

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience with Podcast and/or audio recording
  • Experience using Canvas
