The Academy

The Academy is a unique independent school in Berkeley, California with an advanced academic curriculum. The Academy’s mission is to develop thoughtful, ambitious and deep learners.

 

We are seeking a passionate educator to lead our middle school mathematics program, with an opportunity to improve the mathematics program across the school.

 

The position can be crafted as 60% time or full-time.

Who You Are

 

You are someone that:

  • is passionate about teaching and learning mathematics
  • has an understanding of the types of mathematics competency needed in the 21st century
  • relishes working with children from 6th to 8th grade
  • has experience working with high-achieving students and encouraging them to stretch themselves
  • spreads an infectious enthusiasm for subject matter and intellectual inquiry
  • helps student develop self-direction and intrinsic motivation in the quest for learning, even while making mistakes
  • thinks analytically and likes to measure whether things are working
  • excels in communicating and working collaboratively

 

You are someone who probably has:

  • a proven record of working successfully with middle-school students
  • an advanced degree in a quantitative field (e.g. mathematics, physical science, computer science, engineering)

  • autonomy in the classroom to develop each child’s abilities and to collaborate with faculty and parents, without constraints of large school bureaucracy or of lack of resources
