Redwood Day School

Job Description and Desired Qualifications

The 2nd Grade Teacher is a dynamic educator who has experience in planning and integrated curriculum. This teacher will cover curricular components as defined by the 2nd-grade teaching team and will work closely with their grade-level partner. The ideal candidate is committed to academic excellence and multiculturalism and understands the social and emotional growth and development of children. This individual will have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiation of instruction, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in building community in and outside of the classroom. Responsibilities will include teaching language arts, math, and history. (Students also attend P.E., music, art, Spanish, library, science, and computer classes away from the classroom.) Average class size is 18-22 students. This position begins in August 2019.

This is a full-time position, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays)

Perform all other assigned school-related duties (e.g. recess supervision, meetings, etc.)

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • Candidate must have a natural rapport with children and effective classroom management skills
  • Candidate has strong communication and organizational skills, and is motivated to work with a strong existing team

Desired Qualifications and Traits:

  • Teaching credential or Masters Degree (MM) (preferred)
  • Integration of technology in the curriculum
