Summary
San Francisco Day School seeks a full-time (12-month role), resourceful,
self-motivated, and hands-on professional to serve as Communications Manager.
The Communications Manager is an integral part of the school’s Advancement team,
responsible for collaborating with and supporting the Director of Communications
to articulate SF Day’s brand to a broad range of school community constituents.
Proven project management skills and advanced writing/editing/creative expertise
across multiple mediums, including digital, social media, and print, as well as visual
storytelling photography/video, are required to succeed in this role.
The ideal candidate is exceptionally reliable, proactive, resourceful, detail-oriented,
demonstrates excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and is
committed to supporting the mission and goals of San Francisco Day School.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Website Management
● Maintain the school’s Finalsite website on an ongoing basis and prior to each
academic year. Develop and publish content throughout the year, such as
news stories, microsites, content updates, forms, and other web-based
elements. Maintain parent and faculty and staff portals on the website.
● Partner with the Director of Communications to track and analyze data
performance in order to optimize user engagement and help drive future
marketing and communications decisions.
Social Media
● Manage SF Day’s social media presence, including content development.
● Partner with classroom teachers and, where appropriate, students, to
showcase SF Day’s program, faculty & student work to internal and external
constituents.
● Develop an annual social media plan to promote SF Day and align with school
events and calendars.
Marketing Materials/Print Collateral/Digital Newsletters
● Assist in planning, implementation, and execution of communications to SF
Day’s various constituents, including parents/guardians, alumni, Board of
Trustees, students, faculty/staff, and prospective families.
● Partner with instructional teams and departments to develop and/or edit
content for print and digital publications.
● Draft and design SF Day’s weekly parent/guardian/community e-newsletter,
The Week Ahead.
Videography, Photography & Graphic Design
● Document school events, athletics, and school life via photography and video
to convey effective stories and capture key campus events. Events may
occasionally fall on evenings and weekends.
● Partner with freelance video producers and photographers on the
development of our higher-visibility video and photography, develop shot lists,
and write creative briefs and shooting schedules. Accompany of freelance
videographers and photographers on shoots on campus.
● Contribute to, organize, and maintain the school’s online photo and video
archives.
● Use graphic design tools (InDesign, Canva) to create specialized content for
the school including donor stewardship newsletters, flyers for school events,
content for our annual gala, admissions, and other projects as needed.
Constituent Relations
● Serve as a point of contact for families, volunteers, and employees who might
have questions about how to access the school’s various communications
tools.
● Maintain the school’s digital directory and help ensure consistency of
constituent data across communications platforms.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
● Requires a minimum of 3 years of related professional experience.
● Bachelor’s degree preferred.
● Extensive experience with Google Suite is required.
● Proficiency in website development and email marketing platforms
● Time-management skills, the ability to multitask under pressure, creative
problem-solving skills, and strong organizational and project management
skills.
● Perform all functions with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills.
● Listen attentively and work effectively with others to support organizational
goals.
● Develop a good rapport with parents, faculty and staff, alumni, and all others
connected to the school — embrace and support the school community.
● Demonstrate a positive and productive attitude.
● Must be willing to work evenings and weekends occasionally.
