Health Services staff must demonstrate knowledge of best school nursing and public health practices that promote the well-being of individual students along with the greater community. The Day School Registered Nurse provides supervision and advising that support the intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual growth of the students. A Day School Registered Nurse serves as a role model, mediator, and mentor. It is essential for the School Nurse to maintain a high level of visibility when on duty.
Position Summary
Under the direction and general supervision of the Health Services Administrator, the School Registered Nurse – Day performs a variety of technical and clerical duties in support of student health services. Administer basic first aid and medications; screen ill and/or injured students; assist in the care of diabetic students and others with special health needs; maintain student immunization and health information records
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess injured or ill students, take vital signs; notify parents and staff of student conditions as appropriate
Administer CPR/first aid to students as appropriate
Monitor and care for diabetic students
If needed, administer inhalers, nebulizers, epinephrine, baqsimi, or narcan.
Prepare and administer medications according to physician instructions; monitor and maintain medication logs.
Track and order medications for boarding students; organize pharmacy refills
Organize medications and related instructions for teachers and staff for field trips
Assist in coordinating health services; communicate between nurses, counselors, health services staff, school administrators, parents, and students.
Collaborate with School administrators to make recommendations for best practices in student medical support
Work closely with Resident Faculty as it relates to boarding student health and communication
Organize CPR/First Aid and emergency medicine trainings and certifications
Maintain and update student health records, logs, and reports
Document student clinic visits in PowerSchool.
Compile and verify student health information; process and assure the accuracy of health and immunization forms; contact parents to request additional forms and other documents and information as needed
Input student health data into a computer program
Close the clinic as needed to create a quarantine unit for boarding students and care for positive patients
Support the school counselors with the mental health needs of students, provide care, order and administer medications, and help connect to local resources
Collaborate with the wellness team to schedule and teach health promotion throughout the school calendar
Assist in ordering, receiving, and maintaining inventory of health office and first aid supplies as needed
Assess students for outside medical and health appointments, follow up with providers, and follow treatment plans

Attend student support meetings
Track covid cases, contact trace, and report to the county and state.
Perform vision and hearing screenings
Work with Athletic trainer to screen for concussions and oversee protocols
Partner with public health department for guidance on policies and procedures
Organize vaccine clinics
Coordinate medical appointment scheduling with health services transportation.
Perform vaccination audits and annual reports
File allergy/asthma action plans and update EPI pen prescriptions
Help with preparation and medication organization for overnight field trips and student breaks
Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures including patient confidentiality and HIPAA
Teach health units for lower school, middle school, and upper school curriculum
Keep current on licensure and medical certifications
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to: teaching a health class, resident life duties, attending sporting events on campus acting as a healthcare representative
QUALIFICATIONS:
Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum 2 years of healthcare experience working with children, adolescents, and the public (preferred)
Bachelor’s degree required
Knowledge of many areas of health including mental health
Knowledge of school laws and policies
BLS/CPR certification
Knowledge of state health regulations
Compensation: Salary range is $49.00 – $60.58 per hour depending on experience. This position is eligible for benefits offered to full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision, and matching 403(b) plan.
