Health Services staff must demonstrate knowledge of best school nursing and public health practices that promote the well-being of individual students along with the greater community.
Under the direction and general supervision of the Assistant Head of School for Student Life, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties in support of student health services. Administer basic first aid and medications; screen ill and/or injured students; assist in the care of diabetic students and others with special health needs; maintain student immunization and health information records.
Responsibilities of Health Center Administrator (R.N. or LVN):
Screen injured or ill students; notify parents, staff of student conditions as appropriate
Administer first aid to students as appropriate; perform CPR in emergency situations as needed
Take vital signs; administer nebulizers and inhalers
Assist in the care of diabetic students
Prepare and administer medications according to physician instructions; monitor and maintain medication logs; track medication expiration dates
Organize and prepare medications and related instructions for teachers and staff for field trips.
Assist in coordinating health services; communicate between the school nurse, students, parents, and staff.
Collaborate with Asst Head of School for Student Life, and other School administrators to make recommendations for best practices in student medical support (e.g. concussion protocol)
Maintain and update student health records, logs, and reports
Compile and verify student health information; process and assure accuracy of health forms; contact parents to request additional forms and other documents and information as needed
Input student health data into a computer program
Assist with coordination of vision, hearing, and other screenings
Supervise day-to-day operations of the health center, including 2 other medical staff
Maintain the health office in a clean, orderly, sanitary, and safe condition
Maintain/replace campus defibrillators and Epi-pens as needed
Assist in ordering, receiving, and maintaining inventory of health office and first aid supplies as needed
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
2 years of healthcare experience working with children, adolescents, and the general public.
Current RN / LVN License in the State of California
Current First Aid and CPR certification
Experience handling first aid situations
Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google docs
Successful experience demonstrating tact, courtesy, positive attitude and maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for benefits offered to regular full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision, matching 403(b) plan, daily lunch.
