Position Title: Prep Religion Teacher
Department: Prep
Reports To: Academic Department Head of Religious Studies
FLSA Classification: Exempt
FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 100%; the typical school day is 8:15 a.m. – 3:30p.m.
Schedule of Duties: 10-Month
Salary: $82,000- $173,502 annually (at 100%FTE) depending upon level of education and experience
Position Purpose: The Religion Teacher prepares curriculum and teaches Religion to high school students grades 9-12.
Specific Expectations for Prep Faculty: In addition to regular teaching and duties, the following duties and responsibilities are expected as part of the faculty workload: chaperoning, community responsibilities, professional development and trainings, classroom substitution, holding office hours, proctoring exams, admissions-related tasks, and attendance of, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (e.g. Director’s Day, open houses, Schools’ annual auction), as required and directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law and SHS policy.
Essential Functions
• Teaches religion successfully to high school students.
• Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and student resources.
• Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Evaluates student work and provides meaningful feedback to guide learning / growth.
• Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
• Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
• Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning.
• Contributes actively to build a vibrant faculty/staff learning culture.
• Collaborates with colleagues to develop and renew curriculum and other school programs, including contributing positively to a team that co-creates shared curriculum and assessments across sections of a course.
• Maintains expertise in subject matter and pedagogy through professional development.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• BA and post graduate work in relevant subject matter. Master’s degree and experience of any kind in a Sacred Heart school are strongly preferred.
• Must be Practicing Catholic with a minimum of 3 years as a lead or religion teacher in a Catholic school.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver lessons in a creative and charismatic style that provides a profound and sincere experience of Sacred Heart and Catholic principles and inspires students to a deeper involvement in both.
• Demonstrated ability to teach high school-level course(s) in at least one other discipline within their subject area.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate innovative technology to support all student learners, including those with an identified learning difference or disability.
• Demonstrated ability to teach adolescents with joy and verve with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
• Excellent verbal and written skills in English, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills. Additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred.
• Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community.
• Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs.
• A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
• Works in an often highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
• Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus
• Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends and on occasional overnight trips.
• Abide by school’s current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.)
