Sacramento Country Day School, the regional leader in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade independent school education since 1964, seeks a full-time counselor and SEL teacher in our Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) for the 2025-26 school year. This is a full-time position with 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision premiums (employee only). The salary range for this position is between $75,000 – $100,000 depending on education and experience.

This position will include counseling Middle and High School students as well as teaching Social-Emotional Learning classes to Middle School students. Candidates will also be prepared to integrate themselves into the life of the school, including, but not limited to, participating in department and team meetings and chaperoning field trips.

Primary Responsibilities:

Counseling students in middle and high school regarding short-term social and emotional issues, individually or in small groups.
Teaching Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons to middle school students, developing a comprehensive SEL curriculum for three grade-levels.
Working with high school advisory groups to workshop responses to micro-aggressions, harassment, and other relevant issues.
Identifying students who may need targeted or intensive services, making referrals to families to outside counselors/therapists outside of school for long-term support.
Maintaining communication, including all legal clearances, with families, and the school on student social and emotional matters.
Participating on the Student Support Team and attending all grade-level and division meetings.
Provide support and teach basic skills to teachers to help students manage their emotional, social, and academic responsibilities.
Partnering with Administration about students and curriculum needs.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

A Bachelor’s or higher degree in School Counseling, Child Psychology, or a related field
Three years of experience working in a school setting
Experience with school-age students plus the ability to support the school mission in all aspects of the counseling experience
Ability to communicate well, with teachers and families, to apply effective interventions in classrooms and individual student behavior
School requirements include: background check, First Aid/CPR training (school sponsored), negative TB result.
