We are seeking culturally competent Associate Teachers in 3rd and 4th grade to work with a dedicated and diverse group of faculty and students. Associate Teachers at Redwood Day are just starting out their career as classroom teachers (first – third year of teaching) and are passionate about having responsibility for curriculum design and instruction while continuing to learn from a Lead Teacher. Our 3rd and 4th grades have two sections, each led by a Lead Teacher. The Associate Teachers at these grade levels will partner with both Lead Teachers and will be responsible for curriculum design, project-based instruction, differentiated instruction, classroom management, progress report writing, handling parent/guardian communication, etc. The team will collaborate and divide responsibilities as needed. The Associate Teacher will take the lead on teaching various subjects, participate in recess/lunch duties, substitute for the Lead Teachers when necessary, lead parent/guardian-teacher-student conferences in partnership with Lead Teachers, and participate in School activities and events throughout the year.
The Associate Teacher role at Redwood Day is not intended to exceed three years before either applying to be a Lead Teacher at Redwood Day, if a position is available, or moving on to another school.
Schedule and Hours
Associate Teachers will begin mid-August 2021. Daily hours are Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Wed 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Desired Qualifications and Traits
Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred
Teaching credential preferred, not required
At least two-three years experience as a Teaching Assistant
If no Teaching Assistant experience, at least one to two years of experience as a teacher in a public or independent school setting
Experience as a Teaching Assistant or Teacher in Grades 2-5 preferred
Commitment to working in a diverse learning environment that necessitates flexibility, professional behavior, a positive attitude, and a desire to enhance professional growth
Strong written and oral communication skills
The Associate Teacher pay rate range is $31.21 and $32.46 per hour. Redwood Day offers a competitive benefits package.
