Job Description

The Associate Teacher position at Redwood Day is a new position intended for early-career teachers in their first-third year of teaching. Our 3rd and 4th grades have two sections, each led by a Lead Teacher. The Associate Teachers at these grade levels will partner with both Lead Teachers and will be responsible for curriculum design, project-based instruction, differentiated instruction, classroom management, progress report writing, handling parent/guardian communication, etc. The team will collaborate and divide responsibilities as needed. The Associate Teacher will take the lead on teaching various subjects, participate in recess/lunch duties, substitute for the Lead Teachers when necessary, lead parent/guardian-teacher-student conferences in partnership with Lead Teachers, and participate in School activities and events throughout the year. The ideal candidate will be culturally competent, interested in working with a dedicated and diverse group of faculty and students, and passionate about having responsibility for curriculum design and instruction while continuing to learn from a Lead Teacher.

The Associate Teacher role at Redwood Day is not intended to exceed three years before either applying to be a Lead Teacher at Redwood Day, if a position is available, or moving on to another school.

Schedule and Hours

Associate Teachers will  begin mid-August 2021. Daily hours are Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Wed 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Desired Qualifications and Traits

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Teaching credential preferred, not required
  • At least two-three years experience as a Teaching Assistant
  • If no Teaching Assistant experience, at least one to two years of experience as a teacher in a public or independent school setting
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or Teacher in Grades 2-5 preferred
  • Commitment to working in a diverse learning environment that necessitates flexibility, professional behavior, a positive attitude, and a desire to enhance professional growth
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Compensation/Benefits

The Associate Teacher pay rate range is $31.21 and $32.46 per hour. Redwood Day offers a competitive benefits package.
