Redwood Day School

Redwood Day’s K-8 program includes over 400 students all learning together on our 4-acre campus in the heart of Oakland. Everything we do is designed to keep every child engaged and growing. Job Description and Desired Qualifications:

We are seeking dynamic, energetic, playful, responsible activity leaders to cultivate and develop the inquisitive minds of a diverse student body in our after-school program. Join our dedicated team in providing a fun, innovative, quality program, where children build their confidence through creative clubs, physical activities and free play. We are interested in hiring people committed to working in a multicultural learning environment and who demonstrate flexibility, a positive attitude, and professional demeanor. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children in a school or camp setting, an understanding of the social and emotional needs of K-8 students, strong communication and organizational skills, and a motivation to work with a strong existing team.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise, interact with and engage students
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate enrichment clubs and recreational activities
  • Set-up and clean-up program areas
  • Communicate program needs to Director
  • Attend regular staff meetings and professional development
  • Assist with other School duties, including lunch and recess supervision, as requested 
  • Attend and/or help staff School events as requested

Successful candidates must also demonstrate the following:

  • A love of working with children
  • An understanding of the developmental needs of K-8 students 
  • High energy and creativity
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Flexibility and patience 

Schedule and Hours:

These are part-time positions beginning August 16, 2019. The after-school workday is Monday-Friday 2:30-6:00 p.m with bi-weekly meetings at 1:30 p.m. Additional hours are available during in-service days and school breaks. We are flexible and willing to work with schedules, however, it is required that everyone works a minimum of 3 days per week.
