Position Summary
Park Day School seeks a dynamic and experienced educator to serve as both Middle School Physical Education Teacher (80%) and Middle School Athletic Director (20%) for the 2025–2026 school year. This full-time position is ideal for a leader who is passionate about youth wellness, physical education, and equitable, team-oriented athletics.
The role reports to both the Middle School Head and Director of Auxiliary Programs and blends classroom instruction with athletic program leadership. The PE program focuses on physical literacy, health, teamwork, and joyful movement, while the athletic director component ensures a robust, inclusive, and well-run after-school sports program for middle school students.
Key Responsibilities
As PE Teacher (80%):
- Teach two PE classes per week for grades 5–8, plus one elective
- Design and deliver an engaging, developmentally appropriate PE curriculum aligned with progressive education principles
Serve as an academic advisor - Promote student growth in physical health, cooperative games, fitness, and team sports
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Communicate clearly with students, families, and colleagues
As Athletic Director (20%):
- Oversee the middle school athletics program, including fall, winter, and spring team sports
- Represent Park Day in the local independent school athletic league
- Coordinate game schedules, practices, transportation, and referees
- Host home games and manage game-day logistics (e.g., scorekeeping, setup/cleanup)
- Supervise and support part-time coaches; serve as liaison with families and faculty
- Recruit and coordinate volunteer parent drivers
- Manage the athletics budget
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Education, or a related field required; advanced degree or teaching credential preferred
- At least two years of experience teaching PE and coaching middle school-aged students
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport with middle schoolers and guide them with empathy and high expectations
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction and lead inclusive practices for students of all abilities and backgrounds
- Experience managing budgets and working with external partners (referees, leagues, etc.)
- CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to become certified)
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and culturally competent teaching
Compensation
This is a full-time, temporary position for the 2025–2026 academic year. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience with a teacher scale range of $65K-$100K.
