Middle School Spanish Teacher 

Full time – 2021-22

The Position

Nueva seeks a Spanish teacher for our Middle School division. This constructivist educator with deep content knowledge and love of teaching language will team with other motivated colleagues to create dynamic lessons. Experience with project-based learning, technology integration, and curriculum development are necessary. Successful candidates will demonstrate a lifelong love of learning, fluency in Spanish, and ability to differentiate curriculum.

Qualifications and Responsibilities for Spanish Teachers in Middle School Division

  • In collaboration with MS Spanish teacher, develop and deliver curriculum and lessons for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade
  • Teach a rotating introductory class for 5th graders
  • Commit to World Languages team goal of teaching 90% in the target language
  • Map curriculum outcomes to ACTFL proficiency guidelines
  • Collaborate with World Languages team to articulate curriculum across languages and levels

General Responsibilities for Teachers in Middle School Division

  • Convey enthusiasm for content and intellectual inquiry
  • Design instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enrich curriculum and instruction
  • Integrate appropriate technology to enhance learning
  • Create hands-on, project-based learning experiences
  • Collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and parents
  • Model flexibility in implementing best learning practices
  • Support the well-being of all students
  • Collaborate with our Social Justice and Equity team to support students and incorporate an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens into teaching practice
  • Adopt and maintain assignment posting and tracking systems for classwork and homework
  • Write quarterly narrative student evaluations
  • Demonstrate interest and ability to lead student activities, coach, & contribute beyond the classroom
  • Lead by example in your commitment to Nueva’s mission
  • Chaperone field trips and multi-day grade-level trips
  • Run advisory and support students in an advisory setting
  • Teach additional electives and lead a weekly literature club

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced university degree, with a minimum of three years’
  • experience working with adolescents
  • Demonstrated mastery in area of study and ability to teach within and across academic disciplines
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • A desire to integrate curriculum with other subjects and to teach and work collaboratively
  • Experience with gifted learners or desire to work with gifted students and learn about this population
  • A willingness to travel and support students on extended trips
