Redwood Day School

Job Description and Desired Qualifications

The Middle School Physical Education teacher will provide wellness and physical health education tailored for a wide range of ability. Utilizing cardiovascular training, team sports, varied activities, good sportsmanship, and cooperative games, each student has the opportunity to gain appreciation for physical activity that engenders a life-long habit of activity and exercise. The course load includes teaching grades 6-8. This educator will partner with the K-5 PE teacher to develop and align the curriculum vertically. The ideal individual will be familiar with national standards around physical literacy and engage students in their own discovery and empowerment around physical fitness and positive body image. The Middle School Physical Education teacher will have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiation of instruction, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in building community. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in collaborative teacher meetings, supervisory duties and outdoor education.

 

The Athletic Director will provide administrative direction and oversight for all athletics programs and activities and ensure compliance with student athlete health and safety policies. The Director will hire, train and supervise coaches, schedule games for all sports, oversee transportation for away games, establish and maintain standards of sportsmanship for practices and games, oversee marketing of the program internally and externally, and manage the athletics program budget. The Athletic Director will represent the School at professional meetings and other special or public athletic events.

 

This is a full-time position, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays)

Perform all other assigned school-related duties (e.g. recess supervision, meetings, etc.)

Essential Requirements:

  • BA in Physical Education or equivalent
  • Experience in teaching physical education and coaching, especially at the middle school level
  • Experience as an Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, or Coach
  • Candidate must have a natural rapport with young people and good classroom management skills

 

Desired Qualifications and Traits:

  • Teaching credential or Masters Degree (MM) (preferred)
