Live Oak is accepting resumes for Middle School Learning Support Tutor (grades 6-8) to begin in August 2020. Applicants should have experience as learning specialists, educational therapists or credentialed classroom teachers who have supported students with different learning needs. In addition, applicants should have experience with professional training, enjoy collaborative work on curriculum development, demonstrate a commitment to issues of equity and social justice, and feel a resonance with the school’s mission, vision, values, and educational philosophy. Requirements

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Direct student support – provide individual tutoring sessions for middle school students in the Individual Support Program who are not taking Spanish. These tutoring sessions involve:

-preview and review of concepts covered in Math, Humanities and Science classes -support with class assignments, homework and projects

-support with executive function and organizational skills

-helping students develop awareness of their unique learning profile, skills to advocate for themselves and strategies for managing classroom demands

Review of Student Information – read and understand student’s Learning Support Plan, review all records in their Learning Services file such as evaluations and screenings, and review report cards, midterm reports and standardized testing scores

Faculty Collaboration – work with teachers and Middle School Learning Specialist to implement Learning Support Plan

Family Collaboration – communicate with families about student progress and coordinate about student’s school/home support

Meetings – participate in weekly meeting with Middle School Learning Specialist, weekly Faculty/Staff meeting as well as occasional student/family meetings and teacher meetings as needed

Additional School Wide Expectations:

  • Participate in monthly meetings of a mixed age group of Live Oak students (Groves)
  • Participate in Camp Live Oak
  • Attend the Corporation Meeting/Art Show
  • Supervise middle school students for lunch or recess
