The College Preparatory School

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a full-time Math teacher beginning in August of 2019.  This position entails teaching four sections of math. Candidates should be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rich academic environment that highly values equity and inclusiveness.

Qualifications and desired characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Math
  • Three to five years experience teaching math at the secondary or college level
  • Ability and desire to teach all levels of our math curriculum
  • Passion for working with high school students
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
  • A strong interest in working in a multicultural community

The College Prep Math program is unique, innovative and rigorous. Full-time teachers teach four classes, with either two or sometimes three preps. Section sizes average 16 students. Math teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping the curriculum which is based on an integrated program. Across the curriculum, teachers integrate applications, review and theory. Students use both texts and teacher-produced material designed for incremental, developmental learning. The predominant mode of instruction involves students working in cooperative groups.
