Math and Science Academic Support Assistant

Full-Time Position

Beginning fall semester 2018


The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks an Academic Support Assistant in math and science beginning in the fall of 2018.  The duties of this position include: working with students individually and in small groups, overseeing and maintaining a positive working environment in the Learning Center, working with classroom teachers, observing math and science classes, scheduling and driving shuttle vans to and from BART, occasional ACT and SAT proctoring on Saturdays, fulfilling chaperone duties and assisting in other areas of school life as needed. The working hours will typically be from 7:30 to 3:30 during the school year. The Math and Science Academic Support Assistant reports to the Director of Learning Services.


Qualifications and desired characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Math, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
  • Passion for working with high school students in math and the sciences
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
  • A strong interest in working in a multicultural community
