PreK-4 Grade Learning Specialist (Full-time for Year-long Maternity Leave) – 2020-21

The Learning Specialist Position

We seek a full-time, one-year, PreK-4 Grade Learning Specialist who will bring a strengths-based approach to serving learners who are gifted and demonstrate potential or identified learning challenges. Working closely with the division head and school support team, the Learning Specialist will conduct educational screenings, create and track student accommodation and intervention plans, provide teacher and family consultation, attend student wellness meetings, and offer parent education sessions. Additionally, the specialist will work with individuals and small groups to provide targeted support and co-teach or coach teachers to integrate best teaching practices for a range of learner needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of constructivist, project-based approaches; expertise in instructional strategies and learning accommodations for preK-4 Grade students with learning challenges; and passion for staying current on the latest research in special and gifted education.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required
  • Learning specialist coursework or training
  • A minimum of three years successful teaching or learning specialist experience
  • Experience interpreting educational testing and developing/monitoring student accommodation plans
  • Experience working with elementary age students
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility and creativity in working in a dynamic environment where new ideas, mistakes, and iteration are embraced.
  • A desire to work collaboratively
  • Openness to feedback and improvement, modeling lifelong learning
