Job Description and Desired Qualifications:

The Lower School Art Teacher will design and execute a robust visual arts curriculum for K-5 students, that is innovative, creative, and encourages the artistic side of students. The ideal candidate will have experience in a variety of artistic media, styles, and approaches including: two-dimensional fundamentals utilizing drawing and painting skills, three-dimensional mixed media concepts and design, ceramics and an ability to operate a kiln. This teacher will have a strong commitment to teaching art history/appreciation from a diverse and inclusive perspective, meeting the learning needs of each student, and a teaching style that supports differentiation of instruction, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in community building. This individual should have a strong art teaching background, demonstrate cultural competence, and have an appreciation for the Lower School mindset and experience. Additional responsibilities include producing the annual Lower School Art Show, active involvement in school activities, including experiential education trips, collaborative teacher meetings, participating in equity and inclusion groups with students and adults, and supervisory duties.

This is a full-time position starting in August 2021, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays)

 Essential Requirements:

∙    Bachelors of Arts in Visual Arts (or comparable degree)

∙    Classroom teaching experience, especially at the K-5 grade level

∙    Candidate must have a natural rapport with children and good classroom 

management skills.

∙    Perform all other assigned school-related duties (e.g. recess supervision, meetings, 

etc.) 

Desired Qualifications and Traits:

∙    Teaching credential or Masters Degree (preferred)

∙    Personal experience as a working artist
