MIDDLE SCHOOL: English/Homeroom Teacher  

(Part-Time Beginning August 2021)

Responsibilities

Head-Royce School is seeking a dedicated, culturally responsive, and enthusiastic educator to join our 6th grade team. Candidates must have experience teaching at this age level and knowledge of child development between the ages of 10-12 years. The 6th grade English program includes the teaching of literature, creative and expository writing, and other language arts skills. We are also looking for teachers who are familiar with interdisciplinary teaching in a middle school setting.

Faculty also serve as homeroom teachers, activities and/or community service sponsors, and participate in the life of the community.  The School seeks applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an awareness of ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students.

Expertise in teaching English – writing, reading, critical thinking
Collaborative, flexible colleague with middle school teaching experience
Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents
Demonstrated knowledge of a child’s social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree; Ideal candidates will have an academic background in English/Humanities
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience
Demonstrated desire to teach in the Middle School
2-5 years minimum teaching experience
Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice
Additional Qualifications (preferred, not required)

Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in English, Literature or Education
