NOTE: This is a 1-semester Long-Term Substitute (with benefits) position, beginning August 2021 through Jan 2022

Responsibilities
Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator Middle School Spanish teacher for the Fall of 2021 (Through Mid January). The teacher will be responsible for teaching selected Spanish courses in the Middle School (with potential to teach an Upper School section). This is a one-semester position. Our K-12 Spanish program includes a focus on developing oral proficiency, reading and writing skills, and an exploration of culture and history from throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Faculty participate actively in the life of the community.  We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy to reflect the needs of 21st Century learners.  We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals. And we want teachers who love Middle School and Middle-Schoolers.

Skills

Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning in Spanish.
Collaborative, flexible colleague with middle-school teaching experience
Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents
Demonstrated knowledge of a child’s social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Language and/or Literature or equivalent area of study
Fluent speaker of Spanish
Familiarity with 21st-century teaching principles
2-5 years Teaching experience at the middle school level
Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice

Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:

Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in Spanish Language or Literature, or Education
