Position Overview

The Nueva Lower School is currently seeking a full-time fourth-grade humanities teacher who is passionate about integrated, project-based learning. This person will collaborate with the fourth-grade team to develop and teach curricula related to the year-long theme “The Path of the Hero,” involving extensive research into ancient Greece; the study of philosophy; the development of reading, writing, and historical thinking skills; and a year-end culmination.

In addition to specific subject-matter experience and expertise, the ideal candidate would bring an interest in educational technologies, interdisciplinary approaches, and collaborative teaching. The candidate should also have experience with differentiated instruction. In May, the class participates in a four-day trip to Westminster Woods and this teacher will co-chaperone. Additional responsibilities for all full-time teachers include supporting student well-being, generating a regular blog, offering an academy (enrichment-type course), and facilitating a weekly literature club.

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor’s required and advanced university degree preferred
• Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
• Formal or informal experience with elementary aged students
• Demonstrated mastery in area of study and ability to teach within and across academic disciplines
• Excellent communication skills
• A desire to integrate curriculum with other subjects and to teach collaboratively
