The Substitute and Mustang Afterschool Program Teacher will join our Lower and Middle School faculty and work directly with both division directors.
Major Responsibilities:
Depending on the assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cover classes for faculty during short-term absences
Study and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher
Apply various teaching techniques (including interactive methods and game-based activities) to encourage participation and facilitate learning
Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises, and additional resources
Assign classwork and homework
Take attendance according to school policy
Grade students’ assignments and provide constructive feedback if required
Keep track of students’ progress and write down information that will be useful to the regular teacher
Report any incidents regarding students’ behavior in and out of the classroom
Maintain a tidy and safe class environment for students
Cover recess and/or lunch duties
Cover morning drop-off and/or afternoon pickup duties
Ability to display strong initiative, internal motivation, and a willingness to take on responsibilities beyond those explicitly defined.
Other Responsibilities:
Morning and after-school care
Distribution of lunch to students
Setup and/or cleanup of Monday lunch for employees
Cover the front desk for short periods of time
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work is in an active, fast-paced environment dealing with various challenges, deadlines, and contacts.
Must be able to move safely and comfortably over a large campus regularly.
May stand for extended periods of time (up to 4 hours per day).
Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment and outside in weather ranging from cold and wet to hot (80+ degrees).
Ability to safely and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. And regularly lift up to 10 lbs.
Regularly sit, talk, walk, hear, and interact with students, parents, staff, and visitors.
Regularly use close and distance vision.
Able to climb stairs, turn, bend, reach, and occasionally use a step ladder.
Qualifications and Salary
Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment.
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education or related field.
Recent teaching experience or other activity in the area of primary instruction.
Demonstrated knowledge of current instructional strategies preferred.
Previous experience teaching and/or teaching credential is a plus.
This hourly non-exempt position is for ten months of the calendar year, mid-August through mid-June. Hours of work are from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Hourly rate of pay range is $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
