Episcopal Day School is seeking full-time Assistant Teachers. The Assistant Teachers will join our Lower School faculty and work directly with the Lower School Director. We seek compassionate, dedicated, fearless, and innovative team members who will support our students and parents to carry forth our school’s Episcopal tradition, Mission, Philosophy, and Core Values.
Major Responsibilities
Embracing the school’s mission and philosophy in working with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
Working with the Lower School Director and lead teacher to execute responsibilities pertaining to the academic program: curriculum development and implementation, classroom management, student assessment, and parent communication.
Working with our Learning Center members and lead teacher to support students in achieving their full development and growth potential by observing students’ behavior and needs and consulting with our school counselor and Learning Specialists.
Attending and participating in the following: chapels, in-service faculty meetings, parent and student assemblies, and other school functions, as requested.
Participating in professional development opportunities and keeping current on educational issues and trends.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of teaching experience in a Lower School Classroom
Experience with Lucy Calkins’ Reading and Writing Workshops and Fountas and Pinnell’s
Guided Reading approach
Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction in a heterogeneous classroom
Knowledgeable in educational technology that will enhance instruction
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work in an active, fast-paced environment with various challenges, deadlines, and contacts.
Must regularly move safely and comfortably over a large campus.
May stand for extended periods of time (up to 4 hours per day).
Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment and outside in cold and wet weather (80+ degrees).
Ability to safely and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. And regularly lift up to 10 lbs.
Regularly sit, talk, walk, hear, and interact with students, parents, staff, and visitors.
Regularly use close and distance vision.
Able to climb stairs
Turn, bend, reach, and occasionally use a step ladder.
Compensation
This hourly non-exempt position is for ten months of the calendar year, mid-August through mid-June. Hours of work are from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Hourly rate of pay range is $27.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
