San Francisco University High School

English instructor at San Francisco University High School (beginning August 2020)

At San Francisco University High School, we believe that the deepest learning requires collaboration among people who embody a diversity of backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, and perspectives. In order to build and sustain a community that is comprised of a wide range of social and cultural identities, we must continually engage in furthering our self-knowledge, equity literacy, and ability to communicate effectively across differences. We challenge ourselves to do this work on both a personal and institutional level, recognizing that our community is part of a larger and more complex world.

We are seeking a full-time instructor to teach in our core courses (9th-grade or 10th-grade) as well as upper-level literature seminars for 11th and 12th grade students. We seek candidates who have the curiosity and academic experience to inspire new readings and approaches to literature and the teaching experience to engage and motivate our talented students. We are especially interested in candidates who have interdisciplinary training and who are eager to teach courses that ground literature in philosophical, historical or cultural contexts, as well as candidates who have experience and skill in collaborating and working on teaching teams.

San Francisco University High School is a college preparatory school. We seek teachers who are thoroughly educated in their disciplines, who are devoted to the love of learning, and who will contribute to the school’s invigorating intellectual climate. Throughout the school, we seek to hire adults who are stimulating and supportive in their work with students and who share our belief in the moral and educational value of diversity.

If you are interested in being a candidate, please prepare a resume, cover letter, and a portfolio including a sample syllabus and lesson plans, sample graded student work, and anything else you would like to include that can give the search committee a sense of your teaching. Please submit all materials using the online application at:
