Job Title: Pre-Kinder Associate Teacher

Job Class: FT, Non Exempt

Reports to: Principal PK to 1st Grade

At EBI, the core responsibility of every teacher—including Associate Teachers—is to embody and uphold the values and principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), and to translate these into meaningful, consistent classroom practice. Our central mission is to support and inspire student learning. As a community of lifelong learners, the associate teacher will need to focus on their own learning through professional growth and reflective practice.

The Associate Teacher supports the instructional team at EBI by assisting in all assigned responsibilities across the classroom and school environment. This role is integral to fostering positive relationships with children, teachers, and families. The Associate Teacher helps plan and implement curriculum activities, supports classroom organization and daily routines, supervises students both indoors and outdoors, and contributes to maintaining a clean, safe, and engaging learning environment. By collaborating closely with lead teachers, the Associate Teacher plays a vital role in ensuring a nurturing and developmentally appropriate educational experience for all students.

Specific responsibilities:

The Associate Teacher collaborates with the teaching team, the Child Development and Early Intervention Specialist, the PK-1 Director, the Head of School, fellow colleagues, children and parents of EBI.

Supports the goals of developing EBI as Spanish Immersion Bilingual and culturally rich environment, transmits the values and culture as stated in our vision and plan for the school and speaks fully in Spanish to the children in the program.

Ensures that the environment is safe, clean, clutter free, and aesthetically pleasing.

Assists in maintaining standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the school.

Assists in providing appropriate learning experiences and activities for the children.

Observes and interacts with children as individuals in a nurturing way and shares observations and discussions with teachers and the PK-1 director.

Provides care giving functions when appropriate, i.e toileting needs, napping, preparation of foods. Implements all health and safety standards and regulations for the above mentioned.

Interacts with children in a positive, supportive, respectful, open-minded manner, following our SEL program: Conscious Discipline.

Helps children resolve, negotiate conflicts when they arise using the Hablalo protocol; anticipates and prevents conflicts when possible; uses consistent positive Conscious Discipline strategies in guiding children’s behavior.

Maintains visual and auditory supervision of children at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom, on the playground and on field trips.

Attends and participates in all staff meetings, other meetings or PD training sessions required.

Helps maintain documentation of the curriculum activities.

Maintains all personnel records, time sheets and licensing requirements up to date.

Establishes and maintains a positive non-judgemental relationship of cooperation and respect with all coworkers and supervisors.

Maintains confidentiality.

Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

Works to increase skills and knowledge in the IB curriculum (inquiry-based approach) and Reggio Emilia philosophy.

Performs other duties necessary to ensure program compliance and quality services to children and parents.

Qualifications and requirements:

Speak, read and write in Spanish.
B.A Required, Permit is not required
Minimum twelve semester units of ECE or Child Development or accredited HERO or ROP program in child development.
Experience working with 3-5 year olds is desirable.
High School diploma.
Valid California ID
Basic computer skills in Word, correspond via email and print center forms.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing using standard English and Spanish.
Good interpersonal skills with both adults and children.
Ability to sit down in small chairs and work with small children
All teaching personnel must have a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance, Criminal Record statement, Physical exam and TB test not older than 12 months, First Aid and CPR certificates.

EBI  uses a salary scale that is based on education and years of experience and ranges from $30.12 per hour to $39.74 per hour
