The French American International School is a PK-12 independent school in San Francisco.  Founded in 1962, the school is a multicultural, multilingual educational institution with over 1,100 students across an urban campus in the heart of the city. About the Position

French American is seeking a Principal for its Early Childhood Education Center. In this role, the dynamic person will be able to support the Mission and Values of the school and carry out, in good faith, the policies and programs as directed by the Head of School, and to oversee and supervise all operations of the Section, with full responsibility. Additionally, this role requires a deep passion for a multicultural, multilingual environment where they can think, operate and effectively communicate cross culturally with our students, faculty, staff and families.

Key Responsibilities:

To exercise responsibility together with the Head of School for the following:

  • Development, implementation and critical review of educational policy, bilingual programs, curriculum content and performance by the faculty and students at School;
  • Execution and oversight of the school’s strategic plan goals and accreditation recommendations, including those relating to curriculum scope and sequence in collaboration with Director of Teaching and Learning and French curriculum coordinator;
  • Supervision, development and recruitment of section faculty, including collaborating with the Principal of the Lower School and Head on hiring, support, and professional development, assignment to particular duties, review and dismissal as appropriate;
  • Supervision, development and recruitment of section administrative and support staff, including hiring, assignment to particular duties, review and dismissal as appropriate;
  • Working with the Dean of Admission to ensure the recruitment and enrollment of an adequate and qualified student body, with specific attention to the recruitment and retention of French and francophone families;
  • Liaison with the the CFO and the National Center of International Schools Board and Staff, as needed;
  • Development and administration of the Section operating and capital budget and the maintenance of Section programs within reasonable budgetary limits established by the Head and the Chief Financial Officer;
  • Collaborate with members of Leadership Team to support the School’s strategic plan, programs and initiatives, including fundraising and parent engagement programs;
  • Fostering effective relationships with parents/guardians, through orientation, education, and cultivation activities as well as individual support; and working in partnership with the Parents Association
  • Compliance (documentation, training, etc.) with Licensing requirements (Teacher-children ratio, faculty qualification, security and safety requirements, adequate documentation)
  • Collaboration with Lower School Principal to ensure vertical alignment between cycle 1 and cycle 2 and to facilitate student and family transition between both campuses

 Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in education and related management experience
  • Experience in International or Independent School education and in French Education/Education Nationale
  • Proficiency in English and French language, including oral and written skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with School community – students, staff, parents
