POSITION
The Director of T&L reports directly to the Head of School, leads the Instructional Leadership Team, and partners with section principals and other members of the Leadership Team to ensure effective student and teacher learning.
FOCUS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Learning
- Lead the Instructional Learning Team in the collection, documentation, analysis, and use of student learning data, both internal and external, to ensure student learning
- Partner with principals to ensure accurate and effective assessment of student learning
- Ensure effective support of teaching and learning through the teaching of research skills and the effective use of technology
- Partner with principals and other academic leaders to ensure student learning and the success of the student experience
Program Coordination
- Implement and supervise a systematic cycle of curriculum review and documentation both within sections and across disciplines, especially in the Middle and High Schools, to ensure vertical alignment of the program and horizontal coordination of the program and student experience
- Focus in particular on the needs of adolescent learners and the curriculum and partner with Middle and High School principals on programs to meet these
- Undertake specific program research, design and implementation as directed by the Head of School
Faculty and Staff Professional Learning
- Partner with principals to identify and implement pedagogical innovations and best practices in order to ensure student learning and program excellence
- Develop and implement professional development programs for staff that support strategic plan goals, program requirements, and student learning goals
- Lead the Instructional Learning Team meetings and coordinate professional learning, including the pré-rentrée and professional learning day plans
- Oversee the professional learning cycle for faculty and staff, including implementing goal-setting, guiding mid-level leaders in their supervisory and coaching role in the process, and documenting teachers’ learning and progress
- Manage the professional development budget and the allocation of professional development resources in alignment with school-wide goals and individual plans for teachers
- Develop and steward partnerships with external organizations to support teacher learning
- With principals, document, share and publicize faculty and staff professional learning and growth
- With the Director of Human Resources and the principals, maintain and develop programs to recruit top faculty to the School
School Leadership
- Partner with the Dean of Admission to lead the accreditation processes and coordinate accreditation documentation
- Lead and support strategic initiatives as directed by the Head of School
QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree and a commitment to lifelong learning
- Experience in school leadership and administration
- A record of success in and commitment to teaching
- Knowledge of best practices in PK-12 education — curriculum planning, instructional technology and pedagogical innovation — and demonstrated experience in guiding faculty in putting these in place
- The ability to build strong, positive relationships and interact joyfully with students, faculty, and families
- Excellent communication skills: the ability to collaborate, build consensus, actively solicit input; listen well; respond in a timely manner; and communicate clearly and positively to motivate faculty and support students and families
- Global mindedness, including a delight in diversity and a commitment to inclusion
- Integrity and a good sense of humor
Additional qualities include:
- Knowledge of French language and culture
- Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate and/or French education
