JOB SUMMARY

Crystal seeks a part-time exempt (0.5 FTE, 10-month) Upper School English Teacher starting August 1, 2025. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of English teaching experience OR other relevant academic teaching experience. This position includes chaperone duties, as well as required professional development and faculty and staff meeting commitments. Other responsibilities include admissions and enrollment event duties, study hall proctoring, and HR-related trainings. Crystal is invested in its students as whole children, not just academic students. Thus, the role of a teacher extends beyond the classroom. The ideal candidate will have a general knowledge of curriculum instruction practices, high school classroom teaching and advising experience, and the ability to instruct students and apply effective classroom management. The purpose of the US English Teacher is to develop creative, reflective thinkers who express ideas confidently and elegantly in both written and verbal expression. Through the study of literature and practice of writing, students become thoughtful, close readers and critical thinkers. Students learn to appreciate the craft of literature, use literature to interpret the world around them, and engage with others empathetically.

The English Teacher will also:

Travel Required

Light travel between the Middle School and Upper School campuses, as needed.

Required education and experience

– At least three years of English teaching experience OR other relevant academic teaching experience
– Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
– Knowledge of subjects assigned
– General knowledge of curriculum and instruction practice
– Ability to instruct students and apply effective classroom management

Preferred education and experience

– Master’s degree
– Independent high school experience
– Experience as an advisor, coach, or club sponsor

Physical demands and work environment

– Able to work in a dynamic environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
– Able to lift up to 20 pounds
– Able to climb stairs
– May work at a desk and computer for extended periods

Salary and Benefits

This is a part-time (20 hours/week), benefits-eligible, 10-month faculty staff position, and the annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $35,000   – $75,000.

The recruitment period will remain open until sufficient resumes have been received and may close at any time a sufficient pool of highly qualified candidates has been established.   First consideration will be given to individuals that apply between  April 4, 2025 through April 15, 2025.  Second consideration will be given to individuals that apply between  April 16, 2025 through April 23, 2025. The ideal start date for this position is August 1, 2025.
