Position Overview

Lick-Wilmerding High School seeks a mental health professional with a master’s level degree or higher in a mental health discipline, experience working in a high school setting, as well as experience working with adolescents, adults, families, and professionals in the mental health field, to serve as a high school counselor in support of the health and wellness of the Lick-Wilmerding student and family community. This role requires an ongoing partnership and collaboration with families, deans, advisors, teachers, and other student support personnel to meet student needs. The counselor is a growth-minded individual who continually seeks out and engages in professional development opportunities. Will customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in performing one’s duties.

Responsibilities

• meets with students for crisis intervention, counseling, and support services

• maintains office hours to meet with students and their families or faculty/advisors

• consults with outside mental health providers to coordinate student support

• provides appropriate referrals for students in need of long-term mental health resources

• participates in planning and delivery of mental health and wellness related programming to students

• may attend the Student Support Services Team meetings

• collaborates with faculty, staff and administration to coordinate support of individual students (Learning Strategies Center, College Counseling, The Center for Civic Engagement, Student Advisors, etc.)

• maintains privacy of student records

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • possess a minimum 3 years’ experience working in a school setting
  • hold a credential (PPSC), license (MFT, LCSW, PSY, etc.) or be eligible within the first year
  • display a deep commitment to equity and working with a diverse student population in a dynamic high school setting
  • be passionate about working in schools
  • have strong organizational, as well as written and oral communication skills
  • demonstrate professionalism and integrity
  • possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • have personal qualities of initiative, optimism, and flexibility

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
