CDS is located on a beautiful, secluded half-acre in the Mission near Dolores Park. Our extended care program employs the use of indoor classrooms, environmental ed. kitchen, wood chips area and climbing structure, farm and garden (featuring four chickens and two sheep!), and a play yard among the largest of independent schools in the city.

The Role:

CDS is seeking a dynamic ECP Specialist Teacher that will develop programming for art, music and large motor development in the preschool as well as working collaboratively with teaching teams on project integration in these areas.  This can possibly include TK.  And support overall afternoon curriculum development as a teacher in the Butterfly (afternoon) Program.

Hours:  9:00 am – 5:00 pm

 

Responsibilities

 

Team: Collaborate, problem-solve and communicate with classroom teaching team members and after school teachers and coordinator. Work collaboratively with teachers in the day and afternoon programs to integrate specialist strands into projects.
Curriculum: Lead, plan and implement an exciting, challenging, child-centered developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum in art, tinkering, music and large motor development.
Children: Encourage children to explore and take initiative in art, tinkering, music and large motor activities. Help children think, investigate and ask questions as part of the educational process. Strive to meet each child’s individual needs.
Families: Support an environment where families learn how their children’s engagement with the arts and movement supports their overall development and collaborate with families toward their child’s success.
Leadership: Source art materials and empower classroom teams to learn to work with students to use and explore them. Develop activities and practices that support large motor development and musicality.

Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and publish weekly blogs keeping families informed about art tinkering, music, and movement in the preschool.
Keep materials and storage areas used for art, music and large motor activities neat and tidy.
Work effectively with children, families, and staff of diverse backgrounds and family structures.
Be proficient in technology: email, word processing, photos, etc. Comfort with blogging a plus.
Requirements:

The successful candidate will:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
Minimum 12 ECE units – required
Have experience teaching art, music, and movement to young children; professional or educational experience in one of these areas is a plus.
Meet licensing experience requirements (i.e. have worked at least three hours/day for 50 days in an early childhood setting within the last two years).
Be able to lift 40 lbs (the weight of the average preschool child)
