Children’s Day School (CDS) is a co-educational preschool through eighth grade school serving over 470 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco. Spanning two campuses, and home to a diverse community of students, faculty, and families, CDS is a vibrant learning community. CDS is located on a beautiful, secluded half-acre in the Mission near Dolores Park. Our after care program employs the use of indoor classrooms, environmental ed. kitchen, wood chips area and climbing structure, farm and garden (featuring eleven chickens and two sheep), and a play yard among the largest of independent schools in the city.
Children’s Day School is seeking a creative, energetic Lower School P.E. Teacher for TK – 4th-grade co-teaching role to begin in August 2022. Reporting to the Director of Lower School, the Lower School PE Teacher is responsible for working collaboratively with the other Lower School PE Teacher in providing a developmentally appropriate Physical Education program.
We are seeking an experienced teacher who would like to contribute to our school community and help grow our program within and outside of the school day.
Responsibilities:
Co-Lead an extraordinary Elementary Physical Education Program that focuses on the whole child – body, and mind – and emphasizes participation, cooperation and teamwork.
Work collaboratively to review, plan and implement a balanced PE program that is full of engaging, fun, and skill-building activities
Lead student learning in large group and small group formats.
Support the delivery of units of instruction and daily lesson plans that reflect the overall goals and visions for the department and school community
Ensure robust record-keeping and preparation of student assessment and evaluation.
Create and facilitate organized games and activities for students during lunch recess or after afterschool/weekends as appropriate.
Communicate with families and other stakeholders in the school community to share information about learning and the program – including writing student-specific reports twice a year
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Highly collaborative and work well with a variety of educators across the school, including the other PE teachers and your lower school co-teacher
Take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies.
Have deep knowledge of sports and physical education, and an understanding of developmentally appropriate P.E. skills and concepts students need to learn to be healthy, active individuals.
Engage students of multiple developmental levels and a wide spectrum of physical abilities in improving gross motor skills.
Demonstrate outstanding time management and organizational skills; the flexibility to work in multiple settings and shared facilities including a playfield and gymnasium.
Accept and grow from feedback.
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in technology.
Support a physically and emotionally safe environment that nurtures and facilitates the development of children.
Model behavior and language that supports our mission and our program.
Position Requirements:
[Preferred] Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Exercise and Sport Science, Kinesiology or related field)
[Preferred] K-12 Single Subject P.E. Teaching Credential or working toward one
Training in Responsive Classroom techniques or willing to be trained
Spanish speaking preferred
