OUR HOPES FOR THE NEXT CEIO
“Fearlessness: they must be unafraid to have tough conversations that challenge and push people to face issues. But they must also be kind and understanding of where people are at.”

The CEIO plays a dynamic role in strategic and programmatic initiatives. Working with different constituencies, the CEIO builds capacity and empowers members of the Crystal community to live our core values through culturally responsive pedagogy and programming and equitable institutional practices.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES: Crystal’s CEIO serves on the Senior Leadership Team and consults with the Board, Academic Council, Director of Admission, Director of Financial Aid, and other school leadership bodies to set and oversee current and future strategic DEI priorities as will be enumerated in the DEI Strategic Plan. The CEIO also oversees the implementation and updating of all institutional hiring practices.

STUDENTS: Crystal’s CEIO oversees the Crystal FIRST program for students who aspire to be first-generation college goers and/or who belong to one of the school’s partner college-access programs and provides collaboration and support to the Associate Directors of the Upper and Middle School Crystal FIRST programs. The CEIO partners with the Deans of Students, Director of Global and Community Engagement, and Director of US Student Government to foster the growth, development, and success of Community Time programming, the Human Development Program, student clubs, affinity groups, special events, and leadership opportunities throughout the year. While the CEIO provides support and consultation, students themselves are leading the charge through initiatives and clubs that address DEI in the school and community.

PROFESSIONAL ADULT COMMUNITY (PAC): Under the leadership of the CEIO, Crystal’s Multicultural Leadership Team (composed of both PAC members and students) collaborates on curricular projects, pedagogical discussions, and community events related to DEI. The CEIO also facilitates and supports PAC Affinity Groups and works closely with individual teachers and departments on curricular development and pedagogical practices. Both internal and external Professional Development opportunities provide strategic leadership related to culturally responsive pedagogy, social justice programming, and equitable institutional practices.

MANAGEMENT OF DIRECT REPORTS: The CEIO supervises the Director of Global and Community Engagement in order to ensure implementation of equity-centered programming and align global and community engagement frameworks with institutional equity and inclusion goals. The CEIO also oversees the 6-12 Crystal FIRST program and supervises the US and MS Associate Directors of Crystal FIRST.

FAMILIES: Crystal’s commitment extends to families through the Parent Association Diversity and Inclusion Co-Chairs, Parent/Family Affinity Groups, translation services, and the Spanish and Mandarin Speaking Family Networks.
