Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
● Teaching Middle School English and elective courses
● Serving as a co-advisor to a group of students
● Developing daily lesson plans and assessment of student performance
● Contributing to curriculum development and pedagogy
● Participating in various aspects of student life at Bentley such as advising students, clubs, coaching, or working with student organizations
● Working collaboratively with administration, grade level teachers, specialists, and advisors
● Collaborating with the Upper and Lower School English faculty
● Developing and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, students, and families
● Supporting and following school policies and procedures
● Creating a positive learning environment both remotely and on campus where students thrive academically
● Engaging in regular supervisory duties including drop off, recess, lunch and pick up
● Attending regular faculty, grade-level, and weekly department meetings
● Attending Open Houses, Admissions events, and other special events as needed
● Being a positive and contributing member of the Bentley community
● Communicating effectively with parents through conferences, and report writing
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s in Comparative Literature, or related educational field
● Experience teaching English in a middle school setting
● Experience in innovative course design, curriculum, planning, implementation, and assessment
● Experience with technology and its application in the classroom
● Ability and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students
● Desire to continually examine one’s practice with the goal to improve student learning
● Commitment to issues of diversity, leadership, inclusion, and equity; Candidates who reflect the broad range of diversity of the Bay Area are encouraged to apply

Pay Range:
Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The salary scale for this position ranges from $69,525 for teachers with no prior teaching experience to $140,000 for teachers with over 40 years of prior experience.
