Athletic Trainer

The athletic trainer is responsible for prevention, recognition, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries that result from athletic activity. The athletic trainer will be responsible for maintaining the athletic treatment center as well as all the equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aid) and reconditioning as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification
  • Demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment
  • Carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician
  • Maintain NATA and CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions
  • Responsible for coverage of all assigned sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the Athletic Director
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through continuing education
  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the athletes’ status and interpret the appropriate information
  • Maintain all athletic training documentation in concise and legible manner
  • Maintain injury data information in proper order and reported in pre-assigned time frame
  • Maintain open communications with all athletes, coaches and parents and administration
  • Maintain and order supplies as necessary as well as keep track of equipment logs
  • Maintain and provide first aid kits given to teams during each season
  • Attend pre-season introduction meetings in order to become recognized by parents, coaches and athletes
  • Responsible for supervision of weight room and exercise equipment
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to students, school families and alumnae
  • Support the Mission and Culture

Other Duties

  • As assigned by the Director of Athletics

Qualification Requirements

  • Certified as an NATA athletic trainer
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • CPR Certified
  • 2-3 years related experience in Athletic Training in the secondary school environment
  • Adept at establishing and managing productive relationships with students, parents and coaches
  • Ability to get along with co-workers and other school community members

Physical Requirements

  • Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents
  • Able to conduct verbal conversation
  • Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
  • Able to sit, stoop, kneel bend, walk, and climb slopes, stairs and steps
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to push and or pull a variety of equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Able to reach and twist
  • Visually able to use the computer for extended periods of time
