Marin Country Day School seeks a gifted educator who is passionate about teaching grades k-4 students using a rich and rigorous curriculum. We seek an educator with a demonstrated background and or interest in cultural competency, curriculum development, technology integration and environmental sustainability. Overview of Associate Teacher Position:

Marin Country Day School seeks motivated educators to support elementary classrooms. The Associate Teacher position is ideal for individuals beginning a career in education and/or in a credential or graduate program. This is a full time teaching position beginning in late August 2019 and ending June 2020. The position reports to the Division Head and Assistant Division Head.

 

Associate Teachers are paired with a teacher in a self-contained classroom of approximately 18-20 students in grades K-2. The Associate Teacher remains in that classroom for the academic year. In grades 3 and 4, the Associate Teacher is also paired with a teacher but works across the grade level in two different classrooms. Teaching, observing and collaborating with other teachers, an Associate Teacher is responsible for all aspects of school life, gaining valuable experience.

 

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Meet with classroom teacher regularly
  • Prepare for plan and lead some whole group, small group and individual activities and teaching
  • Prepare for and participate in parent teacher conferences and report card writing
  • Participate in classroom preparation, organization and logistical responsibilities
  • Creates a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that honors and nurtures each child’s individual identity
  • Develops warm and respectful relationships with students
  • Identifies and responds to individual students’ learning differences and creates enrichment opportunities with the teacher they work with
  • Collaborates with Student Support Services to meet the needs of individual learners
  • Participates in regular team and/or department meetings and weekly faculty meetings
  • Attends Back to School Nights
  • Attends parent-teacher conferences and assists with report card writing
  • Participates in student admission process
  • Supervises students at recess, carpool, lunch room etc.
  • Chaperones field trips and overnight outdoor education trips in 3rd and 4th grade.
  • Participates in assemblies and other special events
  • Serves on committees as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree
  • Desire to pursue a career in education
  • Strong preference for individuals in credentialing and/or advanced degree programs in Education
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Commitment to professional growth, reflective practice, and growth mindset
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively
