Associate Director of College Counseling

San Francisco University High School, a highly-selective independent coeducational day school enrolling 410 students, seeks a full-time (twelve-month position) Associate Director of College Counseling to begin July 1, 2018. The Associate Director will report to the Director of College Counseling and will be an integral part of a well-established team and college counseling program as well as a member of the Human Development Department at UHS.

Essential duties will include:

  • Collaborating with the Director of College Counseling to plan educational sessions for students and families
  • Presenting to community members about the application process and trends in higher education
  • Educating students and families in both group and 1:1 settings about the college process and qualifications for specific colleges and universities
  • Supporting students navigating the search process and helping them understand options; supporting personal growth within the college process
  • Writing individualized letters of recommendation for ~50 counselees annually
  • Counseling, supporting, and mentoring a diverse group of students and families through the college selection and application process
  • Participating in various faculty committees as part of the school’s strategic work

Desired Experience, Expertise, and Attributes:

  • 5+ years’ experience in selective college admission and/or independent school college counseling
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Sensitivity to economic, cultural, and other equity issues present in our diverse community
  • Strong interest in college admission and financial aid trends
  • Interest and facility in data analysis
  • Willingness to work evenings and occasional weekends to fulfill responsibilities
  • BA/BS required
