San Francisco Friends School, a Quaker school located in the Mission District of San Francisco,
seeks an experienced middle school science teacher for the 2014-15 school year.

San Francisco Friends School seeks an experienced middle school teacher who is compelled by the
school’s mission and committed to exemplary science education. The scope of middle school
science includes elements of physics, chemistry, physical science and biology and asks that students
learn to use the scientific method to investigate questions and communicate of results. The curricula
of all grades includes experiments and unit projects. Candidates need to have a strong science
background and be invested in the work involved in team planning.
Responsibilities include close teamwork for curriculum development, committee involvement,
student assessment, supervising an advising group, parent communications, involvement in electives
and supervision of students at lunch and recess. The school has programs in outdoor education as
well as various curricular and cultural explorations; middle school teachers accompany their students
on extended trips locally, nationally, and internationally.
– Three or more years’ experience teaching middle school science.
– Knowledge of current pedagogy and facility with hands-on and project-based science instruction.
– Openness to Quaker philosophy.
– Collaborative and creative team player.
