HR Manager


Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco is a college preparatory, co-educational day school serving approximately 460 students from grades 9-12. Founded in 1895 as a technical arts school and tuition free until 1972, LWHS has a long history of welcoming and supporting students from all walks of life and prides itself on being a private school with public purpose. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Human Resource Manager is responsible for the administration and management of all areas of human resources operational activities for Lick-Wilmerding High School. The position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented person, who has excellent interpersonal skills and purports a high degree of confidentiality and discretion.


  • Manage the recruiting process
  • New hire orientation
  • Benefits administration
  • Staff performance review process
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering contracts, and helping resolve work-related problems
  • Develop and revise guidelines and policies related to human resource practices; (e.g. employee handbook)
  • Responsible for overseeing Worker’s Compensation and safety issues
  • Manage personnel records
  • Inform management regarding governmental regulations/laws and compliance issues
  • Implement and oversee appropriate training, including employee handbook policies and required training vis-à-vis government regulations
  • Manage the payroll function, including timely collection of documents, record-keeping, and providing reports to the Controller for tracking and budgetary control
  • Analyze and recommend compensation and benefit policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements
  • Advise managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment, as well as recommend needed changes
  • Manage unemployment claims process including conducting exit interview to identify reasons for employee terminations


  • Minimum of five years of experience in Human Resources
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or PHR/SPHR or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Professional in Human Resources Certification; Senior Professional in   Human Resources Certification)
  • High level of discretion and business ethics
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective presentation skills, one-on-one and in groups
