Full-time Spanish Teacher
Expected Beginning Date: August, 2013

Position Description:
The Athenian School is seeking teacher of Spanish in grades 9-12. The position entails teaching three-four sections of Spanish each semester, levels 1 through 4 (depending on department needs). Athenian faculty have additional duties, such as occasional weekend residential duty or community service trips, as well as additional co-curricular activities.

Core Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching Spanish, preferably at the high school level
Demonstrated excellence in teaching in a student-centered classroom
Native or near-native fluency in the language
Extensive knowledge of the diverse Spanish and Latin American cultures
Ability to work collaboratively
Experience and familiarity with technology as a tool in teaching Spanish
Bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years teaching experience in relevant field is required; master’s degree and/or teaching credential is preferred
Demonstrated commitment to education for democracy, justice, equity, inclusion, community service, and environmental stewardship

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years teaching experience in an academically challenging high school (preferably in independent schools)
Ability and experience in teaching advanced level courses (such as Honors and Advanced Placement)
Advanced degree in Spanish language or literature
Experience and interest in curriculum design and development
Interest and/or previous experience in leading student trips to Spanish-speaking countries
