Full Time History Teacher (One academic year)

Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco is a college preparatory, co-educational day school serving approximately 460 students from grades 9-12. Founded in 1895 as a technical arts school and tuition free until 1972, LWHS has a long history of welcoming and supporting students from all walks of life and prides itself on being a private school with public purpose. Successful teaching candidates will have developed a thoughtful teaching practice, have three years of teaching experience at a minimum, have earned a teaching credential, masters degree, or equivalent experience, hold a deep love of high school students, and know that teachers at the high school level serve as role models and educators both inside and outside the classroom. Flexibility and a sense of humor are required.

Lick-Wilmerding High School currently seeks a full time History Teacher for the 2014-15 school year only. The position is a one year maternity leave replacement.

The position includes teaching 4 classes (2 course preparations) including sophomore World History and junior Honors United States History. The teacher hired will serve on curriculum teams and work closely with colleagues in the department.

The ideal candidate will have:
•Experience in teaching students how to read, think, write and speak critically about the study of history, emphasizing patterns and themes as opposed to data and recall.
•Experience teaching high school and educating students with varying degrees of academic preparation.
•Interest in and ability to work on a grade level curriculum team.
•A commitment to equity and equitable instruction in the History classroom, which gives all students the opportunity to learn and to demonstrate what they have learned.
