Fifth Grade Teacher

Overview of School 

Park Day School, founded in 1976, offers an outstanding coeducational K-8 program to over 300 students. The school community embraces the ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic diversity of Oakland. Our historical and park-like four-acre campus is located in the vibrant Temescal neighborhood of Oakland, CA. 

Overview of the Position
 
The fifth grade teacher is responsible for all aspects of a progressive, self-contained classroom, including curriculum development, student assessment and parent communication. This position requires the ability to work collaboratively with staff, teaming to support the students socially, emotionally and academically. There are two classrooms at each grade level, and the teachers work together to ensure as much program cohesiveness and continuity as possible. There is an existing grade level curriculum to be implemented, and we seek vibrant teachers who bring creativity and innovation to their teaching practice. 

Qualifications
 
Candidates must be fluent in progressive educational theory and practices, be culturally competent, and have 3-5 years of exemplary classroom teaching experience and a teaching credential. Candidates must have a working understanding of developmental/constructivist teaching practices and social-emotional learning. She or he will be able to successfully instruct and differentiate for students at different ability levels and multiple intelligences. We are seeking candidates who have a nurturing and supportive tone with students, and experience with collaborative teaching. The hiring process will include a demonstration lesson and interview with a hiring committee.
