Three-Quarter to Full-Time Teaching Position
Beginning fall semester 2014
The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a dynamic and innovative English teacher beginning in the fall of 2014. We seek candidates who have a minimum of 3 to 5 years teaching experience and some graduate training in English. Candidates should have a strong interest in working in a multicultural community and should be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rewarding academic environment. Teachers thrive at College Prep when they partake in the opportunities offered by a rich co-curricular program and a tightly knit, diverse community.
Applicants must be able to teach across an innovative curriculum and, at the ninth and tenth grade levels, to collaborate with other teachers on assignments, tests, and topics in common. Teachers also create appropriate, distinctive courses for eleventh and twelfth grade semester-long seminars. This position will be ¾ or full-time, depending upon the school’s staffing needs. It will include sections of either 9th or 10th grade English and one or two sections of a seminar. All sections average 16 students. Full-time teachers teach four classes. Candidates should also be prepared to spend additional periods getting to know and help students outside of the classroom. In addition to their classroom responsibilities, College Prep teachers take a share of other departmental, committee, and general school responsibilities. The salary is competitive. Benefits include medical and dental coverage, a retirement-plan for eligible employees, and most pleasantly and collegially, a prepared lunch every day.
