We seek an innovative, self-starter to develop a K-5 hands-on, inquiry and lab-based science program using elements of our existing K-5 science curriculum as a starting point. The K-5 Science Teacher will be responsible for working collaboratively with K-5 core teachers to move the lower school science program from a self-contained classroom model to a lab-based model. The ideal candidate must be a visionary, able to work with the Lower School Director and Assistant Head of School to envision and create a lab based environment from scratch with ample resource dedication. The K-5 Science Teacher must also engage in a highly collaborative partnership with the 6/7th and 7/8th grade science teachers and the Nature Program Coordinator/Gardening Teacher to review and strengthen the K-8 science curriculum scope and sequence. The ideal candidate will ignite student passion for science while teaching the scientific method, lab, and analytical skills. This educator will have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiation of instruction, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in building community. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in collaborative teacher meetings, supervisory duties and outdoor education.
- BA in science
- Classroom teaching experience in science, especially at the lower school level
- Candidate must have a natural rapport with children and strong classroom management skills
Desired Qualifications and Traits:
- Masters in Education or advanced science related degree (preferred)
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
