Digital Media Instructor

Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is seeking an excellent candidate for a full-time Digital Media Instructor.Our Design and Animation course utilizes the programs Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign in the first semester to present an introduction to the ideas of graphic design and desktop publishing.  In the second semester Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, and Adobe After Effects are utilized to introduce students to the principles of animation and web design.  We are looking for a dynamic instructor who can present these programs and concepts, and ideally develop the course beyond this basic format and introduce other graphic and animation programs such as Maya.  Qualified candidates will have a solid background of the joys of art making as well as a practical understanding of real world application for these creative skills. The position also includes instructing a Digital Filmmaking course. The class is a hands-on experience in the many aspects of making a film including storyboarding, lighting, sound, camera operation, preproduction, shooting schedule, and digital editing with Adobe Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro. Organization Overview Founded in 1898, SHS is a Roman Catholic, coeducational, independent school and is comprised of St. Joseph’s School of the Sacred Heart for preschool through grade eight, and Sacred Heart Preparatory for grades nine through twelve. Summary of PositionThis is a full-time position and reports to the Assistant Principal, Academic Life. The instructor will initially teach a traditional print journalism and print yearbook course with the intent to help the school develop other digital media & computer science courses. Help the school transition to an online school newspaper. Essential Duties• Commit to live out the values of the Sacred Heart education as articulated in Network of Sacred Heart Schools Goals and Criteria, and to integrate them into the fabric of personal and school life.• Continue to develop an innovative Digital Arts program at the high school level.• Participate in the Fine Arts and Computer Science DepartmentsRequired Knowledge and Skills • Expertise in current design and digital media software on PC and MAC platforms• Expertise in the use of iPads• Experience teaching adolescents in grades 9 – 12• Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Digital Media or related field. • Strongly Preferred: Master’s Degree in Education and /or a certificate in design or digital media• Must be comfortable working in a faith-based school.• A clear understanding of and appreciation for the goals and criteria of a Sacred Heart education.
