We’d like to invite your family to a special event co-hosted by Vanguard Alliance and Prospect Sierra School, “Cultivating joyful and successful learning in our schools: a community gathering for K-5 Black boys, their families and teachers.” It takes place on Saturday morning, November 15th, 9am-1 pm at our Tapscott campus. We will be inviting folks from other East Bay schools to join us.
We are pleased to be partnering with Vanguard Alliance to launch this inaugural event to understand the unique experience of K-5 college bound Black boys and to give teachers and families tools to help them reach their highest potential.
The gathering will include breakfast treats, a short musical greeting for everyone before moving into age cohorts. The children (in K-2nd grade groups as well as 3rd to 5th grade groups) will explore, through collaborative play and creativity with iPads, when they feel joyful and successful. You, the parents and educators, will hear briefly from Allison Briscoe-Smith, the former Director of the Center for the Vulnerable Child at Children's Hospital and a well respected, professor at The Wright Institute, explore what makes your child feel joyful and successful, and discuss what your role is in the cultivation of this. After playtime, we will gather in family groups within and across schools to share stories. The morning will end with a catered lunch and time for food, fellowship and new friendships.
The event will be $20 per family and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. This is the registration link. Use the code FREE to waive the fees.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, Britt Anderson, Director of Diversity and Inclusion.
We hope that you will join us!
