U.S. HISTORY
Three-Quarter to Full-Time Teaching Position / Sabbatical Replacement
Spring semester – January to June, 2015
                                                                                                                            
The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, is searching for a dynamic and innovative US History teacher beginning in January and ending in early June of 2015.  We seek candidates who have a minimum of 3 to 5 years teaching experience and some graduate training in History. Candidates should have a strong interest in working in a multicultural community and should be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rewarding academic environment. 
 
This position will involve teaching three or four sections of U.S. History. Sections average 16 students. Full-time teachers teach four classes. The College Prep history program requires of all students, yearlong courses in World Civilizations (9th grade), The Atlantic World (10th grade) and U.S. History (11th grade). Across the curriculum, history teachers work closely with one another as teams for particular courses.
 
Candidates should be prepared to spend additional time getting to know and help students outside of the classroom. In addition to their classroom responsibilities, College Prep teachers take a share of other departmental, committee, and general school responsibilities, most of them during the 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. school day. Teachers thrive at College Prep when they partake in the opportunities offered by a rich co-curricular program and a tightly knit, diverse community. Additionally, all faculty enjoy sharing a prepared lunch every day. The salary is competitive.
