Annual Giving Manager

The Nueva School, located in the San Francisco Bay Area and founded in 1967, is a nationally recognized independent school serving gifted and talented students. The school is a three-time winner of the US Department of Education National Blue Ribbon Award, and winner of the American Institute of Architects Award for School Design and Sustainability, as well as the Presidential Award for Teaching. Most recently, the school was highlighted by the Pulitzer Prize-winning and New York Times best-selling author Thomas Friedman in his 2011 book That Used to Be Us, in the chapter “Average Is Over.”
Nueva is a child-centered school emphasizing integrated studies, creative arts, and social-emotional learning. The school offers a constructivist program with project-based learning and special-area teachers in visual art, reading, math, science, music, physical education, technology, and social-emotional learning. Our school community inspires passion for lifelong learning, fosters social and emotional acuity, and develops the imaginative mind.
Nueva is located in Hillsborough, CA, just off highway 280. The thirty-three acre Hillsborough campus includes a design lab, media lab, library, Cafe, organic garden, and extensive wooded areas. Nueva employees commute from San Francisco, communities throughout the Peninsula, and the East and North Bay.
The Position:
The Nueva School is looking for a dynamic individual to lead its key annual fund raising activities —the annual fund, benefit auction, and golf tournament—and to be a core member of our advancement department. The position reports into the director of advancement.
Nueva’s annual fundraising initiatives primarily comprise of a fall annual fund and a spring benefit auction. As a PK-8 school we consistently raise over $2 million annually. As we become a PK-12 school starting in fall 2013, the annual giving manager will play a key role in the growth of Nueva’s advancement efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
 Enthusiastic self-starter with excellent project management and analytical skills
 Exceptional written and oral communications skills
 Comfortable using and learning new databases and running reports
 Attention to detail and organization skills a must!
 Active team player, builder, and collaborator
 Ability to multi-task and manage multiple initiatives
 High level competency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and mail merges
 Event planning experience highly desirable
 Understanding of independent school culture desirable
 Experience with Senior Systems, Greater Giving or other donor tracking system desirable
 Comfortable dealing with highly confidential, sensitive information and situations.
 Experience in working with parent volunteers
 Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree and at least 2-5 years of demonstrated fundraising experience.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
In coordination with the trustees overseeing advancement and the director of advancement, the annual giving manager will handle planning, project management, and all the activities related to successful implementation of the annual fund, including:
 Train, motivate, and manage volunteers
 Research prospects to determine appropriate appeals
 Coordinate all solicitation efforts, including writing solicitation letters, printing of
collateral materials, pledge reminders
 Coordinate all stewardship efforts, including writing acknowledgment letters, tracking,
follow-up, and organizing recognition events and activities.
 Prepare donors listings for all appropriate mailings (annual reports, web postings)
 Plan call nights or phone-a-thons to encourage community participation
 Responsible for overseeing the fundraising database including gift entry process, reports and queries for the Annual Fund and special events.
 Work with the business office to reconcile financial data

In coordination with the volunteer benefit auction chair(s) and the director of advancement, manage planning, project management and activities related to successful implementation of the benefit auction:
 Train, motivate, and manage volunteers
 Determine strategy for parent community and greater community (business) solicitations
 Track and package all auction item donations
 Responsible for invitations, marketing, catalog, auction website, online forms, and all other mailings and reminders
 Coordinate all event underwriting efforts
 Coordinate all auction tracking, reporting, acknowledgments, and invoicing
 Responsible for successful implement of online, silent, and live auction events
 Oversee the auction budget and work with the business office to reconcile financial data

In coordination with the volunteer golf tournament chairs and the director of advancement, manage all the activities related to successful implementation of the annual golf tournament:
 Provide support as needed to the volunteer chairs
 Coordinate event registration and marketing
 Coordinate all financial tracking, reporting, and acknowledgments
 Provide event support as needed
 Work with the business office to reconcile financial data

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Advancement or Executive Director.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
This is a full-time position, reporting to the director of advancement. Compensation commensurate with experience.
