Admissions Associate

Lick-Wilmerding High School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school that offers a rigorous academic curriculum with a distinctive program in technical arts, also known as “The Shops.” As a private school with a public purpose, Lick-Wilmerding’s diverse and inclusive community inspires students to become self-directed, lifelong learners who contribute to the world and take pride in themselves, their work, and their community. We are located in the southern part of San Francisco at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Route 280, across from The City College of San Francisco.

Working as part of the four-person LWHS Admissions Office, the Admissions Associate provides administrative support for the team, participates in all admissions-related activities and events, and is expected to provide excellent customer service to prospective applicant families and current school community members.

Primary responsibilities for the Admissions Associate include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting in the coordination and implementation of the student visit “shadow” program, where over 1,000 students visit the LWHS campus
• Assisting in the planning, coordination and implementation of the four Admissions Open Houses as well as additional admissions events (e.g. interview days, placement testing day, etc.)
• Attend and represent LWHS at high school fairs
• Respond to phone calls and emails from prospective students and families
• Clerical tasks including, but not limited to:
o Import and enter prospective students’ data
o Mail application and Flexible Tuition packets to prospective students
o Open incoming mail from prospective students
o File application materials from prospective students and organize and prepare admissions files to be read and evaluated
o Track missing pieces of students’ application (contacting the family)
o Assist in coordinating Flexible Tuition informational mailing
o Organize and maintain Flexible Tuition applicant files
o Assist in Admissions’ decision letter mailings, including creation of enrollment materials
o Assist in sending out Informational Mailing to enrolled Freshman
• Read and evaluate application files, as needed
• Participate in the process of determining admissions decisions for all prospective applicants
• Develop and maintain close working relationships with all faculty and staff

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Experience working in an admissions-related position desired. Experience in marketing, public relations, communications (public speaking), event planning, preferred.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: The candidate should be someone “detail-oriented” who understands and values the importance of accuracy and consistency in everything he/she does. Being able to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment is essential.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Proficiency in Microsoft Publisher and Filemaker preferred. Experience working with publishing and design programs is also preferred.

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking. Care and attention to detail in every aspect of the work is essential. A high ability at copy editing and proofreading is required. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desired.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: A friendly, outgoing, courteous personality is an essential part of this position. The candidate should be comfortable interacting with youth and adults from varied backgrounds. A desire and ability to interact thoughtfully and considerately with others under any circumstance is necessary. The candidate should have the ability and interest in working with adolescents.

*Please note that the position requires working approximately 10 weekend days a year (the majority of which take place in the fall and winter) as well as several evenings. The Associate will be compensated for this additional work.

This is a full-time position starting on July 1, 2013 and is renewed annually.
