Reports to: Director of Development and Communications

Compensation: $85,000 – $100,000 plus benefits, including health, dental, and retirement savings plans

Position Summary

The Communications Associate  leads the development and implementation of Peninsula School’s internal and external communications to strengthen connections across our community and elevate the school’s visibility under the guidance of the Director of Development and Communications. This role combines communications strategy, content creation, media relations, and marketing to support Peninsula’s mission and vision as a leader in progressive education.

The Associate collaborates with staff, parents, alumni, and community partners to tell the Peninsula story with clarity, passion, and authenticity—celebrating our unique program as a leader in progressive education since 1925.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Communications Strategy & Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development and Communications to develop and refine strategic communication goals.
  • Shape brand identity, including key messages and storytelling tactics.
  • Build upon existing marketing strategies to strengthen the school’s position in the independent school market.
  • Create and publish multimedia content (digital, print, video, social media) aligned with institutional goals.
  • Develop visual assets and oversee external design contractors and volunteer artists.
  • Establish processes for data-informed decision-making using feedback and analytics.
  • Manage publicity for special events and oversee media relations.
  • Partner with Development and Admissions to support fundraising and enrollment goals.

Communications Implementation

  • Gather and share school stories through newsletters, social media, website, and other media formats..
  • Manage communication platforms including:
    • Weekly newsletter (Mailchimp)
    • School website (Finalsite)
    • Social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and new platforms as needed)
    • All Signage and Signage Boards
    • Staff Portals and Parent Portals
  • Write, edit, and proofread digital and print communications.
  • Edit and produce school magazines, the Annual Report and the Family Handbook.
  • Support event communications in partnership with Development and the People of Peninsula (POP).
  • Monitor the school’s online presence and reputation.
  • Oversee the communications and outreach budget.
  • Manage archives of photos, video, and print materials.

Family Association Communications Liaison (POP)

  • Serve as staff liaison to the POP (People of Peninsula).
  • Support and guide parent engagement in the school’s “Big 3” fun and fundraising events to strengthen Peninsula’s community spirit.

General Responsibilities

  • Support and represent the department in school-wide events and meetings (Staff, Board, Admin).
  • Serve as an active member of the school’s administrative team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational & Professional

  • Bachelor’s degree (English, Communications, or related field preferred).
  • Professional experience in communications and/or marketing.
  • Occasional availability on evenings and weekends.
  • DOJ/FBI background clearance and TB clearance required.
